About Blood Tribe
The Blood Tribe, also known as Kainai Nation or Káínawa, is a First Nation in southern Alberta, Canada. It is part of the Blackfoot Confederacy, along with the Siksika and Piikani nations. The Blood Tribe has two reserves: Blood 148 and Blood 148A. Blood 148 is the largest reserve in Canada by area, covering 1,342.9 km². It is located southwest of Lethbridge, north of Cardston, and east of Pincher Creek. Blood 148A is a smaller reserve used for hunting and fishing. According to the 2016 census, there were 4,510 people living on the primary reserve. The total registered population of the Blood Tribe was 12,738 in 2021 .
