Peguis First Nation is a Treaty 1 First Nation in Manitoba, Canada. It is the largest First Nation community in Manitoba, with a population of about 10,000 people of Ojibway and Cree descent . The community is named after Chief Peguis, who led his people from present day Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to settle in Netley Creek and later in St. Peter's, Manitoba . In 1907, after an illegal land transfer, Peguis First Nation was moved to its current location at Peguis 1B, about 196 kilometres north of Winnipeg . Peguis First Nation has a rich culture, strong traditions and a significant history within Canada.
